I’m sure I will :) . I also want to find another cheap DC16, ditch the battery setup and wire on a Dyson cord onto it! :D

If for some reason the craigslist guy is a no-show, I’ll just buy one at Sears when I buy my DC23 (which is amazing!)

Oh cool – if you like the DC16, you’ll LOVE the 31!! Smaller, lighter, and twice as powerful! I use mine every day – it’s totally changed my appearance about hand-helds in general!

    Hey Jack,

Looks really cool! I found the orange DC31 on craigslist for $85 NIB. Going to meet the guy on Saturday to buy it! I already like my DC16 so this will be even better.

I did see a display DC31 at Frys, it felt a lot smaller and lighter, but of course it was dead so I couldn’t use it LOL.

whece can i buy this? i need 2 of those engines for my experiment.. i heard it makes 104 000 rotations p/m

Looks good, but regarding the 10 minute limit, I have to wonder why Dyson doesn’t provide the option to plug in the device to a) keep it powered and b) to let it charge when not in use for those times when you really do need cordless power.

Try looking on Dyson’s UK website. It has all the info you’re looking for.

  9. sharpanator says:

and what is the difference between dc30 and dc31 and what about the price, i cant find any offers in google

  10. vintagehoover says:

Well it has a running time of 10 mins or 6 mins. Don’t believe everything you read online! Remember, the majority of people who write those things don’t even have a DC31, so they’re not in a position to make any judgement about it.

I do have a DC31 – shown in the video, and 10 mins is plenty of time. Because the DC31 works so much better than other handhelds, it doesn’t take as long to finish cleaning with it.

  11. sharpanator says:

yes because for me its enough, i would only use it for cleaning my hairs, cause i have hair loss but maybe my brother want to clean the car so it would be nice when it have enough power to clean a car. i googled for dc31 and on some gadget site i rode the feedback and they are upset about the short running time.

  12. vintagehoover says:

Where did you read that? It’s completely untrue! The DC31 will last for 10 mins on ‘normal’, and 6 minutes on ‘intense’. I have one, and I can verify this.

And you just said ‘Those handheld cleaners are used to clean the small “accident”, its not made to clean rooms with ‘

You’re changing your claims each time!

  13. sharpanator says:

yes but now i found out from user feedback that those new models from dyson lasts only for 3 minutes! Thats very annoying when you spend sp much money, you cant use it for clean the car this way.

  14. vintagehoover says:

It’s not that the B&D works fine for 10 mins, then loses suction – the suction trails off rapidly as soon as you start using it!

If you watch my video ‘James Dyson Unveils DC30 and DC31′, you’ll see him explain these points, and answer your other questions!

  15. sharpanator says:

Well, to loose suction after 10 min is pretty good i think, most cleaners dont even have power for 10 minutes. Those handheld cleaners are used to clean the small “accident”, its not made to clean rooms with it :) So there are even DC30 and DC31’s? whats the different in those and what about the price? The DC16 is much much more expensive then the B&D and i guess the DC30 wont be cheaper :) greets from Germany

  16. vintagehoover says:

    You’re wrong.

The B&D uses a low-efficiency cyclone, supplemented by a filter which clogs very quickly. As demonstrated by industry standard IEC testing, performed by the SLG lab in Germany, the B&D has lost all it’s suction within 10 mins of use, after picking up just 20g of dust.

The DC30/31 use Root Cyclone Technology – the most efficient cyclonic system available.

    The ‘abuse lab test’ shows a DC16, NOT a DC30 or DC31.

  17. sharpanator says:

the B&D is also cyclone and will not drop, its also better made and looks better and heavier is cause of metall parts the dyson lacks of. Watch the “abuse lab test” on utube, the dyson just couldnt do it, its overpriced crap from the big marketing machinery “Dyson”.

  18. vintagehoover says:

Within 10 mins of use, loaded with 20g of dust, the B&D Pivot’s airwatt level has dropped from around 45 to 0. The Dyson’s performance is totally constant. The Pivot blows 17 times more dust back into the room. The Pivot is 50% heavier than the DC31.

Clearly, the DC31 is the better cleaner, and it comes with a much wider selection of dusting tools!

    Bye bye, B&D!

  19. sharpanator says:

i think dyson is overpriced and not really better then others, in the case of this hand cleaner i would strongly recommend the Black & Decker pivot cleaner, its better then the dyson for less money!! Greets from germany! Black&decker Black&Decker Black&Decker Black&Decker

  20. vintagehoover says:

    ‘Cloud’ is an exaggeration!

  21. TheHomeAppliances says:

OMG!!! that dust cloud at the end is the worst :/

  22. battery9a says:

do you have any of there cordless linx vacuums? I just got the hoover platinum linx stick vac today and it is the best stick vacuum I have ever owned, possibly the best vacuum I have ever owned! it charges in only 1 hour and 45 minutes(wow!) and picks up the same amount of dirt my full size vacuum does. It is defiantly worth its $200 price!!!!!!!!!

  23. crushu2D says:

I’d gladly replace my DC16 with that as it sounds much quieter

  24. vintagehoover says:

The optional tool-kit is great! I have one, but I didn’t include it in the video, since it doesn’t come as standard with the cleaner.

  25. mrrogersneighborhood says:

I am definitely getting one of these when US retailers receive them this fall! The DC31 with the optional hose would be handy for cleaning out my car.
